Saturday September 11

La Serenissima: Vancouver’s Love Affair with Venice Join us for the grand opening of this unique Museum exhibit that runs through Dec. 4, 2010. Opening ceremony at 5:30 pm FREE ADMISSION.

 

Wednesday September 15

Lagoon and Library. A Venetian and a Venice expert explore three historical periods This event is part of the exhibit showing in the museum Sept. 11 - Dec. 4, La Serenissima: Vancouver’s Love Affair with Venice. Luisa Canuto and Dr. Bronwen Wilson will examine three different historical moments - the early medieval period and the foundations of the city, the Renaissance, and recent developments such as the Biennale. The presentation will be illustrated with slides and props. At 7:00 pm. FREE ADMISSION, but please register in advance at 604 430 3337.

 

Saturday October 2

Dress Like a Gondolier Day This event is part of the exhibit showing in the museum Sept. 11 - Dec. 4, La Serenissima: Vancouver’s Love Affair with Venice. Children and adults can put on their striped t-shirt, black bottoms and straw hats for a dress up day unlike any other! Prizes and activities start at 12 noon!

 

Wednesday October 6

Veneti in British Columbia presenter Anna-Maria Zampieri-Pan showcases the history of Italian immigration from Veneto to BC. At 7:00 pm. FREE ADMISSION, but please register in advance at 604 430 3337.

 

Saturday October 16

The Three Deaths of Venice This event is part of the exhibit showing in the museum Sept. 11 - Dec. 4, La Serenissima: Vancouver’s Love Affair with Venice. Venice, the city, its society through major crisis in its thousand-year old history: presenter Prof. Diego Bastianutti will highlight these changes.


Diego Bastianutti, retired university professor, Vice Consul of Italy Hon. (1978-94). Writer, reader and erudite scholar of Venice, Sig. Bastianutti brings a lively and active style to his presentations – and is known to have, at least once, dressed in a tricorn and bauta mask in a class lecture on the social function of Venetian masks!
