About the event

Join us for this group exhibition where each artist is called upon to creatively explore and meditate upon the enduring relevance of the figure of the Medusa. This Greco-Roman mythological figure is one of the Gorgon sisters characterized by her snake hair and her capacity to turn men to stone when they gaze upon her.


Her image has been reproduced in art consistently and repeatedly from before the 5th century BCE in Greece and Rome to the present. She is found in mosaic, pottery, military armour, wall paintings and even jewelry. In the contemporary world she has become the esteemed logo for the design house of Versace becoming one of the most world highly recognizable symbols synonymous with subversiveness, sexuality and high end luxury decadence. The figure of Medusa reverberates with an enduring relevance. She has become a metaphor for menacing, unapologetically strong women, but sadly one whose story culminates…
