On Saturday, October 10, 2026, our community came together for a truly special evening celebrating 49 years of Italian culture, traditions, and connection at Il Centro – Italian Cultural Centre.
Under the theme “MEDITERRANEO: Shore to Shore,” we reflected on the journeys that brought Italian families to Canada, the traditions they carried across the ocean, and the generations who have continued to keep our heritage alive. It was a celebration of our shared history, the friendships that unite us, and the vibrant community we continue to build together.
From a memorable Italian dinner to music, heartfelt moments, and the recognition of exceptional contributions to our community, the evening brought our mission to life: creating a welcoming home where culture, heritage, and community thrive.

Honouring a Legacy, Celebrating Our Future
A highlight of the evening was recognizing Elio Luongo, recipient of the 2026 Il Centro Hall of Fame Award.
Inspired by his family's journey from Campania, Italy, to Canada, this year's theme reminded us that every journey carries a story—and that the traditions, values, and hopes passed from one generation to the next continue to shape who we are today.
The evening also reaffirmed the importance of supporting Il Centro's mission and investing in the future of our community, from cultural preservation and youth programming to childcare, senior programs, and essential infrastructure.
