THE DIVINE GAZE

An exploration into our connection with the Divine and Ourselves

The exhibition explores ancient art historical traditions through the work of four contemporary artists who focus on the human gaze. In the ancient world the eyes were central focus and central stage, since they told the story of our connection with ourselves, each other, our ancestors, and even with the other world.  The eyes were so important that every other human feature in ancient portraiture was dwarfed in significance.  This exhibition asks: why has the power and meaning of the gaze been diminished in our modern age? And what would happen if we emerged from behind our computer screens to bring it back to life?
